Pornolicious!

It comes with the bitter aftertaste called PopAds, at least for 40-year old Connecticut sub-teacher Julie Amero, who admits she’s not familiar with operating a computer. Facing a possible 4 decade sentence in the slammer, her case is an orgy of defense tech-savvy, sensationalism and judicial ignorance.

“Julie Amero, the Connecticut teacher found guilty exposing children to pornography after popups appeared on her school computer, will face sentencing this Friday, May 18th. Amero, who says that malware on the infected PC was responsible for the popups, could face up to 40 years in jail. Even if she receives no jail time, Amero will be labeled as a sex offender and unable to teach, and be stuck with tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees. This case gained a lot of publicity earlier in the year, but as the prosecution has delayed sentencing three times, the story has fallen off the radar. The Amero case could have a chilling effect on efforts to get computer into classrooms if teachers are afraid of losing their careers (or freedom) over an infected PC.” Snipped from Boing2 + Link

Two things confound me, the length of sentence (40 years??!) and how long it is taking to set this poor woman free considering the other expert opinion that proves otherwise. Want to help?

I wonder if leaving out a girlie mag merits the same sentence…

Up for some yahoo courtroom drama?

UPDATE:  Amero’s getting a new trial after more forensic information, which the jury hadn’t heard of in the trial, has come to light.
